Shannon had some breakthrough pain tonight. We got a little behind on the morphine during the shift change and they had to do more frequent morphine and a couple of Vicodin to get her down to a manageable level. We think the suction on her drain may have been a little too high and adding to the wound pressure as well. We got some food from the cafeteria and now she’s doing much better again. I’ve begun reading her “The Secret Garden” out loud to keep her mind off the pain. Baby is trying to kick her way out even under Vicodin and morphine. It was a challenge to support Shannon through the high levels of pain, but a good reminder that there is still much to go through on this journey. Getting her tucked in for the night. I’ll be back again early.
