Holy nuts! You guys! I forgot the craziest part of the haircut!

While Eileen was working her magic, and after we had caught up on the whole cancer-and-a-baby thing, she asked me how long ago Emmie was born. “Almost 5 months,” I said.

“Hmm… Well, there’s this line of hair about an inch or two out from your scalp where the hair is lighter. It almost looks like a stress line or something. I’ve never seen anything like it!”

I looked, and sure enough, there was a very clear “ring” of slightly lighter hair. She said it wasn’t far enough out to be 5 months (when I had Emmie).

“How old would that ring be, then?”

“Probably about a month or two old, I think.”

*Quick calculations* That would be almost exactly when Emmie turned three months old. Almost exactly when Grandma Emmi died. Almost exactly when I finished the interferon.

My guess, after looking at the ring again, is that it’s probably from the month I was on interferon. Hmm… I just looked it up, and it looks like hair discoloration is one of the possible side effects of interferon (there are so freaking many, you really just have to look them up AFTER you get them). I just have to be REALLY grateful that alopecia (hair loss/thinning) wasn’t one of the side effects I got, because it looks like it’s relatively common! Thirty-eight percent!

Oh, cancer, you really are the “gift” that just keeps on giving!
